Born and raised in the Philippines, April is a Filipina-Canadian travel and documentary photographer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She holds a degree in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She began her practice while travelling across the Philippines, later deepening her commitment to the medium after moving to Winnipeg in 2015. Photography became her way of understanding a new city, drawing inspiration from local artists while documenting the people, landscapes, and everyday encounters that shaped her sense of identity and belonging.
Her work focuses on places, culture, and human connection, often merging symmetry with spontaneous moments. Beyond her personal documentation, she leads workshops and photo walks to share her craft with fellow storytellers.
April's work spans from the Philippine islands to the Canadian prairies, with a portfolio that includes editorial and commercial work for Canadian Geographic, Destination Canada, Via Rail, Air Canada, Travel Manitoba, and Tourism Winnipeg. She has also collaborated with major brands such as Sony Alpha Female and Insta360.
Her photographs have been exhibited across Manitoba and internationally, including the Architecture + Design Film Festival, the Flash Photographic Festival, Reel Pride Film Festival, The Print Swap exhibition at BBA Gallery in Berlin, and the Blipoint–Mulafest International Urban Photography Exhibition in Madrid. She was named one of CBC Manitoba's Top Instagrammers in 2019 and received Canadian Geographic's "Show Me Your Canada" national photography award in the Cities category.
April sits on the council for Bahaghari Pride MB (the first Filipino-Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit organization in Manitoba) and serves on the board of UNIT Productions, bringing her creative eye to both organizations' storytelling and community presence.
Guided by curiosity, April gravitates toward stories rooted in culture, place, and community. When she is not behind the camera, she is often exploring urban spaces on her Brompton bike, seeking out hole-in-the-wall food spots, or road-tripping with her wife, Joan, and their two cats.
